Father Gallenstein comes to St. Anthony from St. Therese Church, Southgate, where he has been parochial vicar since July 2007. Father Gallenstein is the youngest of 16 children of the late LeRoy and Margaret [O’Rourke] Gallenstein of Maysville, Ky. Father Gallenstein’s childhood parish is St. Patrick Church, Maysville, where he attended elementary and high school, graduating in 1977. He has attended post-secondary studies at Maysville Community College, Maysville; Northern Kentucky University, Highland Heights; Thomas More College, Crestview Hills; St. Pius X Seminary, Erlanger; completing in 1990 his master’s degree in theology from the Theological College at the Catholic University of America, Washington D.C.
On May 19, 1990, at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, Covington, by the imposition of hands Bishop William Hughes ordained Joseph Gallenstein a priest for the Diocese of Covington. His was the second ordination for the Gallenstein family. Father Gallenstein’s older brother Stephen was ordained a priest in 1973 and served in the Diocese of Lexington.
Father Gallenstein’s first assignment, July 1, 1990, was as part-time associate pastor at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring and part-time teacher, Covington Latin School. Father Gallenstein’s other appointments include:
