Greetings dear family, as your newest member I feel so honored and humbled to be joining you as your pastor. I hope and pray that God will give us a very successful time together. I am grateful to Bishop Roger J. Foys for this opportunity and wish him well in his retirement. Please join me in prayer for the bishop elect Msgr. Iffert, that the Lord may grant him the grace and favor as he embarks on his new responsibility.

I am Fr. Ivan Polycarp Kalamuzi, most people call me Fr. Ivan. I was born and raised in Kampala, Uganda. My parents were Patrick and Olivia Bakuru (both deceased). I am the third of six children, all my siblings live in Uganda. I am a priest of the Archdiocese of Kampala, my priestly anniversary is on October, 22nd. My priestly formation: I attended Kisubi Minor Seminary 1990-1997; Katigondo National Major Seminary- Uganda 1997-2000; Pontifical College Josphinum, 2001-2005. I was ordained a priest October 22nd, 2005. My assignments have been: St. Jude Catholic Church, Wakiso, Uganda, Associate and Co-founder, 2005-2007; St. Patrick Church – Maysville, KY Associate and later Pastor 2007-2012; Mary Queen of Heaven, Associate 2013-2014; Nkumba University – Uganda Chaplain 2014-2016; Makerere University Business School – Uganda 2016-2021 as Deputy Chaplain; and now, by the grace of God, Pastor of St. Anthony.

It is the Lord who shepherds His people – Jeremiah 23 – and so, in the context of a beautiful summer like we have had so far, please take some time to rest, take the vacation you did not take last year. You all work so hard all year-round. This is the time to recuperate and get reenergized. Indeed, the Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want – Psalm 23.

I have been blessed to be a part of the St. Anthony community since August, 1994 when I accepted a position as the 1st Grade teacher here after teaching 5th and 6th Grade, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade at Prince of Peace School in Covington. Both of my daughters, Maddie and Katie, attended St. Anthony School. Maddie is now an accountant and Katie is a 6th Grade teacher in the Diocese. My husband and I have been married for 30 years and have been parishioners at St. Anthony for over 20 years. I value the Catholic education that I received from Kindergarten through college, and I hope that I am able to continue God’s work by educating young people in the faith for many years to come. I love being a ST. ANTHONY COUGAR!!

All we really need to learn we learn in Kindergarten! While that is not entirely true, I love teaching this energetic, inquisitive and happy age group so much that I have been teaching Kindergarten for over 30 years! I am a graduate of Bishop Brossart High School and Thomas More College. After graduation, I accepted the exciting opportunity to begin the Kindergarten program here at St. Anthony in August 1989! Through the years, I have been extremely blessed to work with the children and so many incredible supportive families! My husband, John, and I have been married for 33 years. We are parishioners of St. Joseph Church in Camp Springs. Our two children, Jeremy and Joann, attended St. Anthony School. Joann graduated last year and is now a freshman at Holy Cross High School. Jeremy graduated 4 years ago and is now a freshman at the University of Louisville. Time flies when we are having fun! I look forward to many fun years ahead with the best community and the greatest school in the country!!

I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in the first grade. Now I suddenly find myself in my 33rd year of teaching! I have taught all grade levels, K-4, over my career. I have been a teacher in many different schools along the way. I came to St. Anthony three years ago and It did not take long to realize this is the school I had always dreamed of. It is a place where everyone knows each other - a place where children are truly cared for and loved by the faculty and staff - a place where real teaching and learning occurs - a place where God is present every moment of every day - a place where everyone can feel at home. St. Anthony School is all the reasons I became a teacher.

I feel blessed to be here and grateful that I am able to share my love of learning with the children each day. Too bad it took me over 30 years to get here - but it was well worth it!

Four years ago, I came to St. Anthony School. I truly found a hidden treasure. During my last four years, I have found the most polite and smart students, parents who are so supportive and generous with their time, and a faculty and staff that can’t be beat! I have found many awesome moments of working with the students -- from hatching chickens to making butter and so many exciting moments in between. Mrs. Schweitzer challenged me to get out of my comfort zone and teach second graders and this year, third and fourth graders. This has been a wonderful experience, but the Junior High are still my all-time favorite. I have also raised 6 children who have given me thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. (Raising children is much harder than teaching them). I have been kept young in spirit because of all the wonderful students I have taught over the last few decades. Thank you present and former students.
