Our theme for this school year is:

"Shine With the Spirit"

Welcome to the beginning of a new school year! A new school year brings a new theme! This year, our school will SHINE WITH THE SPIRIT! Our school community will be learning about the Fruits and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. We will discover how these gifts help us respond to the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives and make good choices so that we are able to serve God and others. Additionally, we will discover how the Fruits of the Holy Spirit develop if we, as Christians, use the gifts of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Moral actions are the fruit, and they show that the Holy Spirit lives within us. Please pray for us as we learn about these Gifts of the Holy Spirit and the fruits that we can bear so that we may “SHINE WITH THE SPIRIT” so that all may see God in us!

May – The Fruits of Faithfulness, Modesty, Self-Control, and Chastity            
If we are open to the Holy Spirit in our lives we begin to “bear fruit”; we experience God’s loving presence. When we bear the fruit of Faithfulness, we live out our commitment to Jesus, Scripture, and the teachings of the Catholic Church. Modesty allows us to be pure in our thoughts, words, and dress. Finally, we exercise Self-Control and live the virtue of Chastity when we overcome temptations and try to do God’s will according to his plan. We understand that our bodies are temples of Christ.

During the month of May, try to bear these fruits by doing the following:  
Learn a prayer of thanksgiving to God or create your own prayer of thanksgiving. Before you speak or act, think about whether or not you would say what you are going to say or do what you are going to do if Jesus was physically present with you.  

The prayer for this school year is:

Lord Jesus, send down your Spirit upon me. When I have difficult choices to make, grant me Wisdom so that I may become more like you. When someone is hurting, grant me Understanding so that I may show compassion and love. When I am tempted, grant me Right Judgment/Counsel so that I make the choice that leads me to you. When someone hurts someone else, grant me Fortitude so that I may stand up for others. When I have an important decision to make, grant me Knowledge so that my decision is well-informed. When it is difficult for me to find you in our troubled world, grant me Piety so that I may have confidence in your promises. When I act selfishly, grant me Fear of the Lord so that I can see your great power in all that you created out of love for me. Please strengthen these Gifts of the Spirit in me so that I can bear fruit and SHINE WITH THE SPIRIT for all to see. AMEN
